Buy your coverage online, stay a Grit client

Grit is appointed with ERGO NEXT, the US small business arm of Munich Re. That appointment comes with a direct quote-and-bind link, and it runs through us.

You answer questions about your business, see your real price, set your own limits, and pay. Coverage starts the moment payment clears. Your certificate of insurance is ready right away at no extra cost.

This is not a lead form and it is not a stranger on the other end. The policy is written under Grit Insurance Group. We service it, we answer the phone, and we are the ones who go to work when something goes wrong.

Start your quote

Tell us who you are so the Grit team has your file, then we hand you straight over to finish the quote and buy. It takes about a minute.

We use this to open your file and follow up if the price comes back higher than it should. We do not sell your information.

Rather not fill anything in? Call the Grit team at (801) 505-5500 and we will do it with you.

What you can buy on this link

  • General Liability. Third-party bodily injury, property damage, personal and advertising injury.
  • Business Owner's Policy (BOP). General liability and your business property bundled into one policy. One policy per location.
  • Workers Compensation. Medical and lost wages for employees hurt on the job. Availability varies by trade, see below.
  • Professional Liability (E&O). For service businesses facing claims of a professional error or a missed deadline.
  • Umbrella and Excess Liability. Extra limits on top of an ERGO NEXT general liability or BOP policy. It is an add-on only, so there has to be an underlying policy first.

What is not on this link. Call us for these.

Be straight with yourself about what your business actually needs. This link does not cover everything, and for most contractors it does not cover the expensive parts.

  • Commercial auto and fleet. ERGO NEXT does not write it at all. If you own a work truck, a trailer, or a van, you still need a commercial auto policy and you cannot buy it here.
  • Contractors equipment and inland marine. Tools, skid steers, excavators, anything that moves between job sites.
  • Builders risk. Structures under construction.
  • Pollution liability. The exposure your general liability policy specifically excludes.
  • Surety bonds. License, bid, performance, payment, subdivision, maintenance. Bonding is what Grit does best and none of it is sold online.
  • Anything above the size limits below. Once you outgrow this market, you need a real program built by a producer.

One call covers all of it. (801) 505-5500.

Will you qualify?

ERGO NEXT sets hard eligibility limits before the quote even starts. Check these first so you do not waste ten minutes:

  • Gross annual revenue under $5 million. The revenue cap does not apply to standalone workers compensation.
  • Total W-2 payroll under $5 million.
  • Workers compensation manual premium of $50,000 or less.
  • For a BOP, total insured property value under $3 million, and a separate policy for each location.
  • Loss history under $20,000, with no more than two incidents in the last three years.
  • No prior carrier cancellation and no bankruptcy filing.

New businesses are welcome. A brand new operation with no history is not a problem here, which is not true of every market.

Contractors, read this before you start

ERGO NEXT is a good general liability market for most construction trades. It is a much narrower workers compensation market for construction, and several trades are not eligible for comp at all. A couple of trades are outside the appetite entirely.

We are not going to make you find that out by getting declined halfway through. Call the Grit team at (801) 505-5500, tell us your trade, and we will tell you in about a minute what this market will and will not write for you, and where the rest of your program has to come from.

The practical version for most contractors: buy your general liability here in ten minutes because you need a certificate for a job. Then call us for the workers comp, the truck, the equipment, and the bond.

What happens after you buy

You are a Grit client from that point forward. Send us the policy documents and we will put them in your file.

Then we do the part the online flow cannot do. We read what your contracts actually require and check the policy against it. Most small contractors are missing something, and it is usually the additional insured endorsement or the waiver of subrogation that a general contractor is going to demand before you can set foot on the site. Better to find that out now than the morning you are supposed to start.

Certificates, endorsements, renewals, claims, and the next policy you need all come back through Grit. (801) 505-5500.

Who is behind the policy

ERGO NEXT Insurance is backed by Munich Re, one of the largest reinsurers in the world, and carries an A+ Superior financial strength rating from AM Best. It writes more than 1,300 eligible business types across all 50 states, with unlimited digital certificates, online endorsements, and monthly or annual billing by ACH, debit, or credit card.

Grit chose this market because it closes the gap at the small end of the book. A one-truck operation that needs a certificate by Friday should not have to wait three days for a submission to come back. That contractor should be covered in ten minutes and should still have a broker.

Quotes and eligibility are determined by ERGO NEXT at the time of application. Coverage is not in force until the policy is issued and paid. Policy terms, conditions, and exclusions govern what is actually covered. Nothing on this page guarantees coverage, price, or approval.

Not sure this is the right route?

Call the Grit team at (801) 505-5500. Tell us your trade and what the job requires, and we will tell you straight whether to buy it online or let a producer build the program.
