Who We Are

Grit Insurance Group is an independent brokerage built by people who came from the industries we serve. We were raised around construction sites, cattle ranches, manufacturing floors, and family farms. We did not study these businesses in a textbook - we grew up in them. That is why contractors, farmers, manufacturers, and property owners trust us with their coverage. We understand the work before you explain it.

Kirk Chester founded Grit with over 30 years of insurance industry ownership experience and a CIC designation earned through decades of hands-on work with business owners who build things for a living. The team he has built shares that same background - people who know what it means to make payroll on Friday, keep equipment running, and show up when something goes wrong.

We are headquartered in Salt Lake City with offices in Park City, Utah and Challis, Idaho. We write business in all 50 states.

What We Believe

God, Family, then Business.

That is the order. It has always been the order. Every decision we make - who we hire, which clients we take on, how we handle claims, how we treat each other - runs through that filter. Business matters. It feeds families and builds communities. But it comes third, not first.

Our Mission

Build Grit into the most trusted name in contractor bonding and commercial insurance in the country. Not the biggest. Not the cheapest. The most trusted.

We do that by earning it - one client, one bond, one policy at a time. We do not sell insurance. We build programs. We help contractors qualify for the work they are bidding. We help manufacturers understand the risks their generic policies miss. We help farmers and ranchers protect operations that represent generations of work. And we do it with a team that picks up the phone, knows your name, and tells you the truth even when the truth is not what you want to hear.

Our Vision

Every contractor, manufacturer, farmer, and property owner in the country should have access to an agent who actually understands their business. Not a call center. Not an algorithm. A person who has been around the work, knows the risks, and builds coverage that fits.

That is what Grit is building. An independent brokerage with national reach, blue-collar roots, and the technical expertise to back it up.

What GRIT Means

GRIT is what it takes to put it back together when it goes wrong.

The name is not an acronym on a wall. It is a description of who we serve and how we work. Our clients are people who get up before sunrise, run crews in bad weather, and solve problems that would stop most people cold. They have grit. We named the company after them.

How We Work

  • Independent - We are not captive to one carrier. We shop your coverage across dozens of markets to find the right fit - not just the cheapest price.
  • Direct - We tell you what you need, what you do not need, and what it will cost. No runaround. No corporate speak. Straight answers.
  • Specialized - Surety bonds, contractor insurance, farm and ranch, manufacturing, and commercial real estate are not side businesses for us. They are the business.
  • Relationship-first - We do not churn quotes. We build programs and earn the right to keep them year after year by doing the work.
  • Accessible - You get a team that picks up the phone. Your certificates get turned around the same day. Your questions get answered by someone who knows the answer, not someone reading a script.
